About the Book

One Summer in Your Shoes starts with a fight between two groups of school boys, at a local park. One school is the local academy, the other the grammar school. They have just broken up from school for the summer, and have gone to the park to play football.

Two boys, Joe and Charles, with magic created by a Goblin, Minx, swap bodies, and for a month experience what it is like to live a completely different life from their own. Joe is from a single parent family, living in social housing. Charles has working parents, a housekeeper, gated house, and doesn’t want for anything.

About the Author

I lived and worked in the East End of London as a teacher, seeing hardship in some of my pupils’ lives, and affluence in others. One summer I worked on a playscheme in a park for local children whose parents were working, or not able to afford a holiday. One day a gang from over the river came and caused trouble. We had to call the police.
I think these experiences influenced the opening of the book.
